I am listening to 10-28-79 and really digging the Passenger!! I remember the whole crowd just roaring when this song started that night and everyone just jammin' to it. This is my favorite version of one of my favorite songs. It's the only song that I recall that was really written with Phil's bass in mind (He did compose it after all), there are so many bombs built into it. I also loved how Jerry played a great raw power slide in it. To me this song really came into it's own when Brent joined the band, his organ notes added so much to the texture of the song and helped make it one of the rawest most intense songs the boys played.

In my experience, everytime I saw it performed it just lifted the energy of the crowd 100%, the whole crowd would jump and boogie throughout. As I have mentioned here before, I always wondered why it was dropped from the repertoire after the New years run in '81. Anyone else have other favorites???

That Cape Cod Passenger is sweet! Kind of a hit or miss tune for me, but the 10/28 is a hit.

5-17-77

The very first Passenger, and it's already played very well. This version is the version that really got me into the song.
